Aquisitions of the vintage kind

I have been picking up a few goodies at the thrift stores in Wales and in my local town so i thought i would share it with you all!

Firstly i picked up this gorgeous lilac cardi. Unfortunately its not vintage but i think i can pair it with some other pieces to give it some 50's flare.

I also picked up this simple red, wool jumper. I thought it would go great with some capi's or a skirt. We're getting into the autumn months and the weather here in England is cooling down so i thought i should be looking for some warmer clothes.

Whilst in Wales i went to a small, independent fabric shop where that had an amazing range of vintage patterns at just £2.50 each! A steal for some lovely patterns and i couldn't resist getting these treasures:

This is a 70's summer dress with a collar. I thought this would make a good sailor dress maybe navy blue with white. Perhaps something a little funky, i saw some fabric with some Russian dolls on that was so fun!

This is a gorgeous 60's wiggle dress. I thought it was a bit Jackie Kennedy and i couldn't contain myself and had to get it.

The last but not least this 70's shirt dress. I thought it was such a versatile pattern i will serve for both winter and summer dresses.

Let me know what gems you guys have found in your local thrift stores lately!

To the land of hills and dragons!

So i have been a little MIA on the old blog for a while as i have been on a little break away before my big break for my birthday, who doesn't like a holiday right? For those of you who haven't experienced the British summer in all its glory we get two weeks of nice weather (that's if we're really lucky) so you have to make the most of it.

So here is a snapshot of my hols:

My grandparents have a lovely home from home in Wales so i took advantage that they weren't there and went to have fun at the seaside.

Let me tell you, we lucked out people and caught what will probably be the tail end of the summer. The weather was glorious, the beers were flowing and i even took the cold, cold plunge and have a dip in the sea!

I wanted to climb Snowdon (a large mountain in North Wales) however it was a little farther than i have thought to get there so i went to the local information centre and found there was a much closer mountain to walk up called Cader Idris. So guess what? I got my walking boots on and climbed that mother!!

There was a gorgeous waterfall and flowing river down the mountain which, after the climb down i did have a little dip in haha.

It did very nearly kill me as it was super humid and super steep but you know the views up there made it all worth it. Plus i didn't get to go to the gym whilst i was there so it was a great form of exercises.

Needless to say i had a wonderful time, watched a lot of the Olympic games and got a little colour on me so all in all a great trip.

Yummy, yummy, yummy. I've got love in my tummy.

As some of you might have guessed already I am an avid watcher of YouTube. I will fill my time watching all sorts of different videos that are on there and one of my very favourites are a gorgeous and wonderful family who put up daily vlogs and they go by the name of Shaytards. Some of you will be familiar with them already, but for those of you that aren't check them out!! They are very different from the vintage inspired goddesses that I normally watch however I have been following their story for the beat part of 3 years.

Colette Butler has always looked fit and slim on the flip side her lovely husband Shay Butler was a hunk of a man. Although he had a big heart he has a big belly to match until he made the decision to make healthier choices in his life and started eating better and exercising ( a little like someone I know huh hmm. Me haha)

Before he weighed 250 pounds which is nearly 18 stone in the UK. Now he is fit, buff and has a few marathons under his belt.

With that kind of inspiration how could you not want to shed that little extra you've been carrying around.

A while ago they put up a recipe for a healthy quinoa salad that I was just desperate to try and today I did so I thought I would share it with you guys.

So here's what your going to need:

  • Quinoa (available from all major supermarkets, i got it from Asda in the lentils and pulses section)
  • Tomato's
  • Garlic aprox 4 cloves or to your taste
  • large onion
  • Coriander
  • Tin of sweetcorn
  • Tin of black beans
  • Jalapenos to your taste
  • Lime
  • Ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • Olive oil
And something to eat it with, i chose some chapatis and tortilla chips.

First add around 2 cups on quinoa to a sieve and rinse under a cold tap.
Place in a pan with 3 cups of water, bring to the boil and simmer until all water has evaporated.

Whilst the quinoa is cooking, finely chop onion, tomato's and garlic. Take the seeds out of the jalapeno and finely chop that too. Place all chopped ingredients in a large bowl.

Take the leaves off the coriander, chop them roughly and add the this to the bowl.

Strain and rinse the sweetcorn and black beans until water runs clear. Then add them to the bowl.

Once all the water has simmered out of the quinoa. Allow to cool a little and then mix in with the other ingredients.

In a separate bowl, squeeze the juice of the lime, add a slug of olive oil, a tea spoon of cumin and slat to taste. Mix it making sure there's no lumps of cumin and then add to the rest of the ingredients and mix. Dish it out and enjoy!!

Hopefully you should have something that looks as sexy as this.

Trust me when i say that this is one of the tastiest and healthiest dishes i have made and it is DELICIOUS!!!!

I really hope you guys have a chance to make this at home and add your variations to it. I did roast a cheeky chicken leg for my other half as he is a carnivore through and through and it complimented it beautifully.

Let me know if you make this, I would love to hear what you think of it and the variations you added.
